Fest FAQs:
Nominations
  • Before signups, we will have a nomination period for people to pick fandoms and relationships that they would like included in the fest. Each person can nominate up to five fandoms, with up to five pairings within each. Please only nominate fandoms that you plan to offer or request.

  • All fandoms in all media are welcome. Canon or non-canon pairings are welcome. Original works are welcome.

  • For the purpose of this fest, femslash is defined as fic or art containing a relationship between two or more characters who identify in canon as either female or genderqueer. (We do not mean to imply that genderqueer = female, but would like to include as many pairings as we can, and leave gender definitions to the participants' discretion). That means you may not request gender-altered/Rule-63/spectrum-shifting works for canon male-identified characters. To be clear:
    • You may request works about cis female-identified characters.

    • You may request works about transgender women, such as Ms Hudson from Elementary.

    • You may also request works about canonically genderqueer and gender-questioning characters regardless of their assigned gender, such as Franky from Skins UK, Alister/Athena from Huge, and Xavin from Runaways.

    • You may request a canonically always female alternate universe version of a character who is male in the main universe, such as Natasha Stark from Marvel 3490

    • You may not request works about characters who are male-identified in canon.

    • You may not request works about male-identified characters who are temporarily transformed or body swapped into an assigned-female body, such as Guy Gardner in Guy Gardner: Warriorette (if you don't know, don't ask).

  • Poly: We do allow poly groupings, so long as all the characters involved are eligible (f/f/f = fine; f/f/m = not in this fest, though you may list it as an option in your optional details.)

  • Crossovers: Please nominate crossovers as under the fandom: Crossovers - Fandom, and list the characters with their fandom after the character name (Example: Pepper Potts (MCU)/Seven of Nine (Star Trek: Voyager)

  • RPF: RPF characters must be 18 or over at the time of nomination, and must be public figures in their own right (no girlfriends/kids/parents of public figures permitted).

  • You must have an Archive of Our Own (AO3) account to participate in nominations and sign ups. If you do not have one already, you can leave a comment here or e-mail the mods for an invite code. (For more on AO3 and how to sign up, go here).

Sign Ups
You can edit/delete your signup until signups close.
This is an exchange fest, which means you must produce a fanwork for someone else. If you withdraw, it is harder for everyone involved. So please, think carefully if you have the time before signing up. If you discover after signing up that you can't finish in time, contact the moderators as soon as possible.

Requests
  • You will have an option to select whether you would like to receive art, fic or both. Obviously, "both" increases ease of matching, but you don't have to request a format you do not want.

  • Signups must include 4-6 fandoms from our list of nominated fandoms, and each fandom must have 1-6 pairings from the list of nominated pairings. We encourage people to request more than the minimum, as the more pairings you ask for, the easier matching will be.

  • You will be matched on fandom, pairing and format (fic or art).

  • While the description section is optional, we strongly suggest you include Do Not Wants. Any DNWs/triggers included in the description will be enforced by the mods. Other things to consider are the inclusion of general likes, rating restrictions, prompt ideas, or anything else you’d like the writer or artist to know. However, please remember that these are optional for the person assigned to you. If you've requested art, please remember that not all fic prompts translate well into art (more on that here). If you have a lot to say, consider linking to a letter in your own blog with the extra details.

  • In your signup, do not imply rank for pairings or otherwise specify a favourite pairing. There is no need to make the person you are assigned feel bad if you want something they are not comfortable writing or drawing.

Offers
  • You may offer to make art, write fic, or both.

  • You may offer between 4-10 fandoms, with 1-10 pairings per fandom. Obviously, the more pairings you offer, the easier matching will be. You can also choose to offer "any" pairing in a given fandom, but please check the tag set to ensure that you're comfortable writing or drawing any pairing listed.

  • You will be matched on fandom, pairing and format (fic or art).

Pinch Hitting
  • In the event we have issues matching someone, they will go out as a pinch hit right away. You can find the pinch hits here.

  • You do not have to have an AO3 account to pinch hit, as you may submit via the mod account. The mods will edit in credit and links to your own platform after the end of the anon period.

  • If you do pinch hit, you'll have the option of adding your requests to a special prompts post, so that those who'd like to can reward you with the gift of femslash!

Your Assignment
  • Your fanwork must focus on a requested pairing, and must include a romantic and/or sexual relationship of some kind. This is not a friendship ficathon. That means there should be some kind of f/f romance, longing, kissing, love, and/or sex. You're welcome to offer or request work featuring asexual characters as long as it's in the spirit of this rule.

  • You are not obligated to produce something for ALL pairings on which you are matched. Pick whatever you are comfortable with. However, if you want to write or draw more than one thing for your recipient, feel free.

  • You don’t have to write or draw the fandom/pairing you were matched on if something else your recipient requested interests you.

  • Creators are required to avoid featuring their recipient’s DNWs in their gifts. While it is not required, if possible, please consider using one of your recipient's prompts.

  • Betas are not required, but are strongly encouraged. Fic submissions with excessive spelling, punctuation and grammar errors and art submissions that look like drafts will be rejected. If your submission is rejected for this reason you can resubmit it after you've polished your work. We will have a beta sign up post.

  • Due to the nature of this fest, it is hard for extensions to be given. If you know you won't be able to submit by the due date, please default as soon as possible. If you default prior to the due date, you may participate next year with no problems. If you default two years in a row, simply fail to submit your work by the due date, submit an unfinished work, or delete your already-completed assignment, you will not be able to participate in the next fest.

  • If you withdraw and the person assigned to create something for you withdraws, you will not be assigned a pinch hitter.

  • If you have a problem with, any questions about, or cannot complete your assignment, please contact us immediately at femslashexmod@gmail.com.

Extras
  • Please finish your assignment before you start on treats.

  • You do not need an AO3 account to post treats; you may do so via the mod account. The mods will edit in credit and links to your own platform after the end of the anon period.

  • Treats of polished art and fic over 1000 words may be posted at any time. Please wait until the mod gives the word before posting shorter fic and sketches.

  • This fest has mandatory anon period for fic. Author names will be revealed one week after the archive goes live. Please do not promote your fic before that time.

  • The anon period for art is optional. Because of concerns about crossposting without attribution, artists may sign their work and may link to it, but they are requested not to crosspost the full art until all the end of the anon period. (For more on this, read here.)

Be respectful. Please realize that everyone has different likes/interests/squicks.

Fest Rules:
  1. All fic have to be a minimum of 1,000 words, and be of a quality that you'd be happy to receive as a gift.. There is no maximum word count.

  2. Art must be polished, and be of a quality that you'd be happy to receive as a gift. There is no maximum size for art or page limit for comics. Art must be hand or digitally drawn. We are not accepting manips at this time.

  3. Submissions may be any rating.

  4. Submissions must be femslash, and must focus on a requested pairing.

  5. Please don't talk about the specifics of your assignment in public until the creators are revealed. We'd like it to be a surprise for everyone.

  6. Gfts can't be part of a previously posted series.

Please do not hesitate to leave a comment here or contact us at femslashexmod@gmail.com, if you have any questions/comments/concerns.

Rules compiled from [livejournal.com profile] rarepairfest and [community profile] femslash12.

Dear Creator Letters
Sign ups are open, which means it's time for Dear Creator letters.

Make sure to include your AO3 username, fandoms and pairings as well as the link.

Please wait until after you have completed/unlocked your letter post, if need be, before commenting here.

You can include additional pairings in your letter if you have more than six pairings you like in a fandom. But please take care to make sure they are clearly optional and include more information about the pairings that are actually in your sign up so your creator doesn't feel bad about being unable to write a pairing if they matched with you on something else.

Please also be respectful of other participants if they have different preferences in fic and requests to you.

Sign Ups are open!
*drumroll* We're a little early again, but sign ups are now open at the 2017 AO3 Collection.

They will remain open until 6PM EDT August 23 2017 (Countdown Clock)

You must be logged into an AO3 account to sign up. Remember you can shoot us an email at femslashexmod@gmail.com and we can help you out with an invitation if you do not already have an account.

Don't forget to check out the small fandoms post for ideas and to promote your favourite fandoms.

Go over the rules one more time before starting your sign up. A quick reminder of the important points:

Requests
  • You may request four to six fandoms from the list of nominated fandoms.

  • For each request, do not forget that you can request art, fic, or both.

  • For each fandom you must request one to six pairings from the list of nominated pairings. If you choose to request any pairing, double-check the list of nominated pairings for that fandom and make certain that any of the pairings listed are all right by you.

  • Your match will be based on fandom, pairing, and format (i.e. fic or art).

  • While the description section is optional, we strongly suggest you include Do Not Wants. Any DNWs/triggers included in the description will be enforced by the mods, however all other details will be optional for your writer or artist. You can also include a link to a Dear Creator letter if you would like to provide more information.

Offers
  • You may offer four to ten fandoms from the list of nominated fandoms.

  • Each fandom you offer must have one to ten pairings from the list of nominated pairings. If you choose to offer any pairing, double-check the list of nominated pairings for that fandom and make certain that any of the pairings listed are all right by you.

  • Again, as for requests, you can offer art, fic, or both.

Don't forget...
  • Check the Uncategorised and the No Media sections of the tag set for extra fandoms, crossovers, and original work tags.

  • Occasionally, after you select a fandom, pairings you want might not appear in the drop-down menu despite already being in the tag set. If that happens, please copy and paste the pairing you want from the tag set, but remember that you need to get it exactly the same.

  • You may edit your sign up as much as you like between now and the close of sign-ups.

  • Please read over your sign-ups one last time before they close. After all, what if you ticked the wrong box?

  • If you write a Dear Creator letter, you can share them at our letters post!

  • Your assignment will need to be completed and posted by 6PM EDT on October 7. Please consider carefully whether you will be able to commit to that deadline before signing up.

Keep an eye out for the new how-to post coming over the next few days if you're new to exchanges, or drop us a comment if you have any questions.

Small Fandoms!
Nominations are closed, the queue has been emptied and corrections have been made (if you spot any ongoing issues, your nomination hasn't appeared in the tagset, you have an opinion on the remaining unclarified Wonder Woman crossover pairings or other issues raised previously, please head over to the last wrangling post and let us know), and now we're just waiting for sign-ups to start.

So it's the perfect time to pitch your small fandoms and rare pairs to everyone!

Tell us why you love it, show us pretty pictures of your favs, link us to the canon (legal options only please), and make your best case for why someone should consider adding your fandom to their requests or offers list.

To make it easy to browse, please put the name of your fandom and/or pairing in the subject line of your comment if you're posting on Dreamwidth. If you're on Tumblr, make sure to use the femslashex tag!

And a reminder if you want to make sure you're ready for sign-ups opening but you don't have an AO3 account yet, shoot us an email at femslashexmod@gmail.com and we can help you out with an invitation.

Nominations Are Closed
Okay, let me take a step back, wind up, aaand — !

*GONG*

Whew. There we go. Got it. That's it for nominations, folks. Barring any weirdness, sign-ups should be open in three days, on Sunday, August 13. During the next three days, the tag set is going to undergo its final set of tweaks before we get sign-ups moving, so feel free to keep browsing it and let us know if there's weird stuff in there that we've missed. (Or just keep browsing it to bask in all the potential femslash. That's fine, too!)

Nominations – One-Day Warning
It's not time to sound the gong just yet, but it is time to pick up the mallet and start taking my practice swings. Nominations close tomorrow (Thursday, August 10) at 6 PM EDT (10 PM GMT). You still have plenty of time to nominate your femslash. Thank you all for your assistance thus far in keeping our tag set cleaned up as nominations progress, and please feel free to let us know here if you have any comments, concerns, questions, etc.

Yet more wrangling and clarifications
Nominations are still open here.

This will likely be the last catch-all wrangling post until after nominations close on the 10th.

Ongoing issues that require input from participants and/or the original nominators include:
  • The following Wonder Woman crossover tags require clarification on which form of Diana is requested. If we don't hear from the nominators, would others agree that Wonder Woman any and then optional details apply on both sides is a good solution? Our other option is to assume the 2017 movie as that's been far and away the most popular choice.
    • Diana Prince (Wonder Woman)/Barbara Gordon (DC Comics)
    • Diana Prince (Wonder Woman)/Hermione Granger (Harry Potter)
    • Diana Prince (Wonder Woman)/Tina Goldstein (Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them)
    • Peggy Carter/Diana - we have approved a 2017 version, but there was more than one nomination. If you were a nominator and wanted a different Wonder Woman variation please let us know.

  • Huuro | Elesa/Kamitsure | Skyla, Pokemon - we seem to be getting some character name word salad going on. Can the nominator confirm that they intended Kamitsure | Elesa / Fuuro | Skyla, or provide more information.

  • Cinderella/Princess Charming, Fairy Tale - this was declined as an ineligible gender swap of Prince Charming, but if there is Fairy Tale relevant canon with a female charming please let us know!

  • BanG Dream! Girl's Band Party! (Video Game) and BanG Dream (Anime) are currently approved separately but appear to have some character overlap. If anyone is familiar with both fandoms, we'd love to hear input on similarities between canons and whether it needs to be combined.

  • Marvel - we had a lot of wandering tags as always, and we think we caught and correctly associated everything, but do double check your comics vs MCU vs Netflix etc pairings are in the right spot and let us know if not so you don't get a surprise during sign ups. From here on we will duplicate, not delete, anything that's been wrongly assigned to one or the other (unless the characters don't appear in that version of canon) so if one of your pairings was already nominated you don't need to worry about it disappearing on you.

  • The following fandom combination decisions have been made, and all additions are also being noted at the first nominations post so you can view the full combined fandoms list together if you need to reference anything.
    • Once Upon a Time in Wonderland pairings are being included within Once Upon A Time
    • Disney - All Media Types is being used for all Disney pairings including Princesses
    • Ashes to Ashes and Life on Mars are combined into Life on Mars & Related Fandoms
    • The Vampire Diaries and The Originals have been combined as The Vampire Diaries & Related Fandoms
    • DC Cinematic Universe includes: Man of Steel, Batman vs Superman, Wonder Woman, Justice League, Aquaman, and Suicide Squad.

Lastly, please keep issues and corrections coming and if something in your nominations was approved or declined and doesn't appear in the tagset, let us know! Especially double check your nominations are correctly listed if you nominated for a fandom that is combined (particularly if you didn't use the already approved umbrella term, if we have declined the individual fandom it may automatically decline your pairings as well without showing them to us first), your pairing includes one or more people from one of those fandoms and might require editing to be unique, your pairing is a non-canonical tag, or if a character in your pairing has multiple names that might have gotten jumbled by AO3.

And as we're approaching the end of the nomination period, get your nominations in quick if you haven't already!

If you want to nominate or sign up and don't have an AO3 account, shoot us an email at femslashexmod@gmail.com and we can help you out with an invitation. Also a reminder to our Tumblr followers if you need help with anything that you may get a faster response by anon-commenting on Dreamwidth.

Edit: Don't forget to check the tagset before nominating if you're close to your nomination limit! I just declined three new variations of Natasha Romanov/Dottie Underwood in MCU because it's already in the tagset. Double check the existing tags first and you might find you can fit a few more pairings in.

More Wrangling, More Clarifications
The nominations process is ongoing. As of today, you all have five days to submit all of your nominations. So far, so good, despite a number of bumps that have since been smoothed. The tag set is still here. If you encounter errors, wandering tags, and the like, or if you have a question that needs an answer (especially if it did not get addressed at one of the previous posts; there have been a ton of comments), please start commenting here, and one of us will get back to you as soon as we are able. Otherwise, keep nominating that femslash.

EDIT – Tag migration between the two different versions of BanG Dream! fandom has already been brought to my attention, and that will be addressed on my next pass through the tag set.

Wrangling and Clarifications
Nominations are open here.

Approvals are still very much underway, but a few issues have cropped up so far.
  • The following Wonder Woman crossover tags need clarification from the nominator on which version of Diana you’re requesting. Now that this has been flagged I will also hold off on approving further WW crossovers without those details, so please check if you have unapproved nominations that will need to be edited or drop a comment with details so I can edit them for you:
    • Diana (Wonder Woman)/Eve Moneypenny (James Bond - Craig Movies)
    • Diana (Wonder Woman)/Rita Vrataski (Edge of Tomorrow)
    • Diana Prince (Wonder Woman)/Barbara Gordon (DC Comics)
    • Diana Prince (Wonder Woman)/Hermione Granger (Harry Potter)
    • Diana Prince (Wonder Woman)/Minerva McGonagall (Harry Potter)
    • Diana Prince (Wonder Woman)/Thirteenth Doctor (Doctor Who)
    • Diana Prince (Wonder Woman)/Tina Goldstein (Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them)
  • Elia Martell has been requested for Game of Thrones (TV) but I can’t google up an actress. Can someone confirm she has a canonical presence of some description in the TV show?
  • Lírien/Gwaeren/Ammeril has been nominated for the Hobbit, but from what I’ve found these seem to be fanon names for unnamed canon characters. Are these names widely recognisable to other fans or do they need changing or clarification of some sort? Can the nominator please provide us with more information in case there's questions or changes to be made.
  • Still looking for additional input on combining DC Cinematic Universe. We are more likely to combine than not for consistency with other fandoms, but input is 50/50 at present and definitely using DC Cinematic and it will definitely include Wonder Woman, but I’m not familiar with all the movies so input on scope is still particularly appreciated.
  • Also looking for input on whether The Vampire Diaries and The Originals should be combined. I will err on not combining unless or until directly requested, but there is a strong case for doing so to be consistent with our other combined fandoms should anyone wish to be able to request TVD/Originals pairings outside of the Crossovers tag.
  • Dalish/Skinner, Dragon Age. From what I can google Dalish refers to a group of people, not an individual. Can the nominator please provide more information?

For those not following the comments on the last post the following clarifications have been made so far about combining fandoms:
  • Mass Effect All Media Types will be used this year and include ME Andromeda
  • Star Wars All Media Types is being used again
  • Arrowverse includes Constantine
  • Power Rangers should be nominated under either the canonical movie tag or the non-canonical Power Rangers (TV) which will cover all shows including RPM
  • Game of Thrones (TV) and ASOIAF are separated.

Please continue to drop comments or email as you have questions or notice any issues. If an eligible pairing is declined in your nominations, please double check the tagset. We’re still working through a large queue so it might have been approved under a different combo or changed to combat tag drift. If something eligible was approved or declined in your nominations and is still missing from or in the wrong place in the tagset, definitely let us know.

If anything appears to be languishing in the queue and you think there might be a question about eligibility please feel free to drop us any additional info we might need. At this stage it is most likely just that it’s still buried behind other fandoms, however.

For those reading this on Tumblr, just a reminder that our Tumblr mod is travelling so if you’d like a quicker response you are very welcome to comment anonymously on our Dreamwidth posts in the meantime!

26 July 2017 @ 07:08 pm
Nominations are now open!
It's a few hours early, but the more time for nomination fun the better! If you haven't already please read the rules before you start nominating.

In short:
  • You may nominate up to five fandoms with up to five relationships in each.

  • Both parties must be women or gender questioning/queer people you'd be comfortable writing about in a femslash challenge

  • All characters in nominated threesomes/moresomes must be women or gender questioning/queer people you'd be comfortable writing about in a femslash challenge.

  • Please nominate crossovers as under the fandom: Crossovers - Fandom, and list the characters with their fandom after the character name (Example: Pepper Potts (MCU)/Seven of Nine (Star Trek: Voyager)

  • [Canonical Character]/Original Female Character is allowed. [Canonical Character]/Any is not allowed

  • [Canonical Character]/[Unnamed Character] is allowed in cases where there most likely was a woman, but we don't know exactly who she was, for example: Galadriel/Legolas' Mother in The Hobbit fandom.

  • There will be one category for Original Work, in which you may nominate things such as Princess/Handmaiden, Mermaid/Ship Captain, or Starship Captain/Chief Engineer.

  • You may wish to drop down into the comments below to see what fandoms and pairings others are nominating, and how to nominate large/complicated fandoms. We will be continuing to wrangle most large fandoms in the same manner as previous years, including:

    • Songs with female singers and female or ambiguous pronouns are eligible.

    • All of the MCU movies, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., and Agent Carter will be listed under Marvel Cinematic Universe.

    • Jessica Jones, Daredevil, Luke Cage and Iron Fist will be listed together under Marvel Netflix.

    • X-Men (Movies) will now be divided into X-Men (Alternate Timeline Movies), X-Men (Original Timeline Movies) and Deadpool (2016). Wolverine movies go in Original Timeline.

    • Marvel Comics will be nominated by universe, for example: Marvel 616, Marvel Adventures, etc.

    • Main-continuity DC comics, including pre-Flashpoint and New 52, will be under DCU (Comics). Other DC universes such as Bombshells will be separate by universe.

    • Everything set in the Doctor Who universe can be nominated under Doctor Who (including Sarah Jane Adventures and Torchwood).

    • Tolkien fandoms will be split into The Silmarillion – J.R.R. Tolkein; The Hobbit (All Media Types), and The Lord of the Rings (All Media Types).

    • All of the old-continuity Star Treks together under "Star Trek: Classic Timeline (All Series)," AOS under "Star Trek: Alternate Original Series (Movies)‎."

    • Stargate will be grouped together under "Stargate - All Series"

    • Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Angel: The Series and assorted spinoffs will go together under "Buffy the Vampire Slayer & Related Fandoms."

    • All variations of Sailor Moon will be nominated separately.

    • All Pretty Cure series will be nominated together.

    • All Rune Factory series will be nominated together.

    • FF X and FF X-2 will be nominated as "Final Fantasy X & Final Fantasy X-2"

    • All of Dragon Age goes together under "Dragon Age - All Media Types"

    • Kamen Rider variations go together under Kamen Rider - All Media Types

    • Various Sentai properties go together under Super Sentai Series

    • The Les Mis tag will be "Les Miserables (All Media Types)."

    • Law and Order series will be nominated separately by series name.

    • Arrow, The Flash, Supergirl and Legends of Tomorrow tv shows will be nominated together as "Arrowverse (CW TV)"

If you're unhappy with any of those combinations/divisions, the mods are willing to negotiate, but the sooner you mention it, the more likely we are to be able to change it. If you believe your fandom has changed over the last year in a way that makes the above no longer accurate, or you plan to nominate a new fandom that may need special treatment in a similar manner, please let us know!

If you spot any doubles, misfiled fandoms, random pairing popping up under other fandoms or pairings that don't qualify, comment here. We're going to do our best to wrangle as we go.

Don't waste a nomination! Before you nominate anything, check the tag set to see if your pairings and fandoms are already there.

We also won’t be running a separate nomination discussion post this year due to the timeline being moved up a little, so in addition to any wrangling issues please feel free to talk about what you're thinking of nominating in the comments, discuss eligibility, negotiate free spaces in your nominations with other users, etc.

Okay, ready to go? More than ready to go?

Click here to nominate some femslash.

Nominations will remain open until 6pm EDT, 10 August 2017.

Edit: an ongoing list of all additions and clarifications to the umbrella fandom list

New Mods and 2017 Schedule
Hello, everyone! [personal profile] shopfront and I are joining [personal profile] samuraiteras co-mods for [community profile] femslashex, and we’re both very excited for this year’s round. The rules and schedule will be going up shortly, but here’s a shortlist of changes from previous rounds:

  • Schedule: The exchange will be running a few weeks earlier this year, with nominations starting July 26

  • Visible Requests: Requests will be visible during sign-ups. This will allow participants to check they are matchable if they want to request and offer only smaller fandoms, and also allow treaters to start writing sooner.

  • Default Penalty: There is a partial new mod amnesty for defaulters. Participants who defaulted after the deadline, defaulted after an extension, or submitted a placeholder in 2016 will continue to have to sit out this round before signing up again. Participants who have defaulted multiple years in a row will have to complete a treat from a previous year’s requests before signing up for this year’s round, or sit out a round, counting from 2016 onwards. That means that if you defaulted last year and it was a second default for you you can still participate this year. Anyone who defaulted last year and also defaults this year will need to complete a treat or sit out a year.

  • Exchange 101 and Tumblr: In last year’s wrap-up post, several people requested an “Exchange 101” post for people new to AO3 exchanges; that will be up within the week. More of a Tumblr presence was also suggested, and we’ll be more active on Tumblr this round. If you have any suggestions for tags to post to or communities to signal-boost Tumblr announcements, please let us know!

  • There was also some interest in adding vids as a medium this round, but as neither I nor [personal profile] shopfront have any vid exchange experience we are currently focusing on getting up to speed with how things currently run. . We’re both very excited to expand the mediums allowed in the exchange and hope to include vids from next year.

An updated rules post will be up soon. That post will have the schedule as well, but here is the 2017 schedule:
    26 July-10 August: Nomination Period
    13-23 August:: Signups open
26 August: Assignments will be sent out by this date
    7 October: Fanworks due
13 October: Archive goes live (or as soon as everyone has a gift)
    21 October: Creators revealed

2017 Mod Team
Hello, everybody. *straightens tie, pushes glasses up bridge of nose* It's 2017, and we're just about ready to get started on the fifth round of [community profile] femslashex. (Five years! Way to go!) But! There's been a key change, and it's to our staff. Our founder, [personal profile] muccamukk, has taken a bow, and godspeed to her, but she's not left anything to chance. I'm still here in my normal supporting (i.e. bumbling assistant) role, but we've got two all-new mods in the form of [personal profile] shopfront and [personal profile] withinadream, here to keep the femslash train on the rails, so feel free to say "Hello!" and "How ya do!" if that's your thing. We'll be posting our official introduction and time frame(s) here soon, but, for now, just know that we're on the job. :-)

In Search of New Mod(s)
Hi all,

I've really enjoyed co-modding this fest for the past few years. All of you have been really great, and have made it the best modding experience.

However, it's pretty time-consuming, and I've taken on some other responsibilities since last year, so I'm just not going to be able to do femslashex justice this time around. It's been a rough decision, but I'm going to step away from the fest permanently.

Fortunately [personal profile] samuraiter is happy to stay on, but in the assistant capacity as he's taken before, not taking over the lead.

Therefore, we're looking for one or two people to take over primary mod duties on this fest, starting this year's round (planned for early August through mid-October.)

Work would include setting up schedules, answering questions about the rules, making the main posts, doing about half of the tag set modding, monitoring sign ups, running matching, answering more questions, checking posts as the come in (usually split with Samu), and setting up all the pinch hits. There's usually a fair bit of time sunk into set up and tag sets, and then a mild amount of stress and a good deal of time around the due date and reveals.

Experience dealing with fest run on AO3 would be a plus, especially given the troublesome nature of the tag set.

If you're interested, drop a comment here including your mod experience, and if you'd prefer to work with another co-mod, or just run it between you and Samuraiter. Comments are screened. Anon commenting is on.

Regards,

Muccamukk

ETA: A couple people have stepped forward. Thank you so much to everyone who offered. There will be an announcement shortly.

2016 Wrap Up Discussion
Wow, so another year done. I hope everyone's had a chance to read through their fandoms. I know I'm still working on a few.

Huge thanks, as always, to all the pinch hitters who made this whole thing work.

Despite the dramatic finale, I think things mostly went pretty well this year. I do, however, want to talk about a couple changes.

1. Timing: When we were working out the timing for this year, I totally forgot about [community profile] trickortreatex (which is funny, as I participated last year), and we ran smack into it. I know a lot of people were stressed with both being due basically the same time, and had to split their attention between archives. Next year, Femslash Exchange will move two weeks forward, to get clear of Halloween.

2. Next year requests will be revealed right after assignments go out.

3. Placeholders. We want to more clearly equate putting up a placeholde with failing to hand in. That is, if you put up an obviously unfinished fic, or a section of a different fic entirely, or a random chunk of Jane Austen's Emma, and it's still up at the deadline, your recip will go to pinch hit, and you will be asked not to participate next year. I know that a certain amount of editing and fleshing out scenes happens post-deadline, and that's fine, but your fic should be ready to go live, even if it's not the best, in case you get the flu or something before reveals.

4. Defaulting multiple times: We're considering asking people who have defaulted two years in a row to not participate again, either sitting out a year, or having to write/draw a make up gift. It would be starting with people who defaulted this year. As always, failing to hand in, or causing me to generate a pinch hit post due date = sitting out a year.

5. Art. It feels like we got more artist this year, but I'm still looking for ways to improve. Suggestions welcome.

6. Vids. I love vids and would love more f/f vids, and we're thinking of adding them next year, but I'm not familiar with the medium. What's considered a 1000-word equivalent? 1.5 minutes? As with artists, we'd probably let people sign vids, as I know they get passed around sans credit.

7. How do people feel about raising the minimum word count to 2k? I liked it when [community profile] fandomgrowthexchange did it. It does seem to lead to longer fic in general, not just around the minimum point, and I think many of us like longer fic. However it also would make the timing a bit different, as we'd need a longer pinch-hit period. I'm not sure what the art version would be? 2 pictures?

8. We'll try to actually get treats for pinch hitters going again next year.

9. Free space!

Creators Have Been Revealed
*coughs*

Now that my Internet connection has been duct-taped back together (not literally, but that's not far from the truth of what happened when my ISP sent out the white van full of tech goons), I am pleased to report that the anon period is over, and that creators have been revealed.

Coming up next: We'll have a discussion post about what to do for next year, some ideas we've had, what worked this time, what didn't, and so on. For now, keep basking in all the femslash. :-)

And we're go!
Sorry for the delay, everyone. We are now live.

Please go forth and read and admire and comment. Especially comment on the gifts made for you.

I highly recommend changing the date of your works to today. You can do that by editing the work, finding then checking the "Set a different publication date" box, and changing the date to today. This will make it show up in the fandom tags, and make it easier to find. Please only do this once.

I'm hoping the archive will open in the next hour or so. Time zones strike again.

And Again: A Pinch Hit
Pinch Hit #40 - Fanfiction & Fanart
Fandoms: Murder Most Unladylike Series - Robin Stevens, Scooby Doo! Mystery Incorporated (TV 2010), Women's Hockey RPF, The Legend of Zelda & Related Fandoms, Adventure Time, Pokemon GO!

This was generated by someone who had submitted a fic defaulting and deleting their work. It's probably a good idea for everyone who hasn't defaulted to check and make sure they still have gifts. The mods will do a sweep as well, but I don't want to miss anything.

The fest will open as soon as this pinch hit is filled. In the meantime, please send treats its way if you can.

ETA: Claimed. Fest will be opening tomorrow, time to be determined.

One more pinch hit
Pinch Hit #39: Fanfiction & Fanart
Fandoms: Final Fantasy XIII Series, Tales of Zestiria, The Mangoverse - Shira Glassman, JoJo no Kimyou na Bouken | JoJo's Bizarre Adventure, The Heroes of Olympus - Rick Riordan

As with the last one, if you can't claim, please consider throwing a few treats this way.

The archive will not open until 5pm regardless. If it comes to it, it will open later, whenever this pinch hit is filled.

Pinch Hit
Pinch Hit #38
Fandoms: Dark Souls III, Mahou Shoujo Madoka Magika | Puella Magi Madoka Magica, Fullmetal Alchemist (Anime 2003), Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood & Manga

If you don't have time to write a full fic for this, please consider sending a treat its way.

Claimed. Thank you.
