I love each and every one of these pairings equally. Kate and Elizabeth are definitely secretive and have a hard time opening up to anyone else, because they feel they have to be strong and set examples. Teyla and Vala are definitely traders and could make serious money together. Teyla and Laura are both warriors, they have that hook. Vala is the type to make Elizabeth laugh, very, very unwillingly, but it would be good for her.
I enjoy AUs of many types, especially alternate timelines and various supernatural, horror, or other AUs, as opposed to the contemporary, non-magical, non-SFF AUs. Or you could just write one or both of the Stargate settings as general canon.
Stargate-specific DNWs: If you're going to set your story post-s3, I prefer stories where Elizabeth and Kate are not dead (or you could fix it, they don't have to stay dead), and Laura is not forgotten by the Atlantis folks. If you do write Vala, please write her less as comic relief and more as a trickster or thief.
