Sell Your Fandom / Pairing!

Sign-ups are open, and that means this is a good opportunity to talk about your favorite fandoms and the pairings you ship for them. Feel free to comment about them here, or take to Tumblr and use the femslashex tag.

This is also a good opportunity to add your name to the pinch hit list. As before, if you join the group, you will receive e-mails when we are looking for pinch hits. You are under no obligation to make a claim, but, if you choose to do so, all you have to do is reply to the e-mail containing the desired pinch hit. You can also reply to it on the group page. This is a great way to help the community, and, speaking as a veteran pinch hitter, there are times when it can save the day for a challenge (and give you that warm 'n' fuzzy feeling of having stepped up to the plate when it was needed).

I've got some anime/manga to recommend! They're all streaming online - Hulu is generally US-only, but Crunchyroll and Viewster are available to a good number of regions.

Kiniro Mosaic: A cute school series about two British girls who come to Japan, and there's plenty of cute friendship hijinks, and the second season is even heavier on the yuri subtext. You can watch it on Crunchyroll, and it's twenty-four episodes.

Gakkou Gurashi: Looks like a cute school series, but then there's that twist at the end of the first episode. It's hard to summarize without spoilers, but if you like girls banding together to survive, this is a good series. Both the anime and the manga are still on-going, and you can watch the anime on Crunchyroll.

Day Break Illusion: A dark but still fairly traditional magical girl series, and it's also a good series if you like girls coming together to fight and survive. It's thirteen episodes and can be watched on Crunchyroll.

Sunday Without God: In a world without true death, twelve-year-old Ai is one such gravekeeper who can grant rest to the living dead. She wants to save the world, and during her journey helps those she meets. It's twelve episodes and can be watched on Crunchyroll.

Maria-sama ga Miteru: Another school series, and very focused on the intense relationships between the female characters. It's four seasons, and can be watched on Hulu and Viewster (season 1, season 2, season 3, season 4).

Strawberry Panic: Yet another school series, with at least four canon f/f couples. It's got comedy, melodrama, rivalry, and of course, romance. It's twenty-six episodes and can be watched on Viewster.

Ohh, I am taking this as a recommended viewing list, if nothing else. Thanks!

Seonam Girls' High School Detectives: A cute short series about a group of detectives at an all-girls high school. One of the later story arcs features the first lesbian kiss in South Korean TV history between two side characters. It's on Hulu but you need a plus account (or a free trial, which should last long enough to binge the series).

Neko Zamurai: A really cute drama about a samurai and a cat! Full of all the shenanigans you would expect from a grumpy middle-aged ronin raising a cute cat, tbh. You can find raws on nyaa.se (I'd link directly to the torrents but there's no batch for season 2 so it's probably faster just to use the search bar) and fansubs on D-Addicts.

I'd try to sell Kamen Rider and Super Sentai but honestly each series is 50 episodes long, so, you know. (But if you've already seen them, the tagset has Ryuki, Faiz, W, Fourze, Wizard, Gaim, and Drive, and Gokaiger, ToQger, and Ninninger in it!)

Oh, and I almost forgot:

Carmilla: Both versions are in the tagset: One is an easy-to-watch, quick Youtube series, and the other is a novella by J. Sheridan le Fanu that the former was based on. For all the lesbian vampire fans out there.

I have a few fandoms that I love e.g. Babylon 5, Star Trek (Voyager and Enterprise mainly), Buffy and CSI. The one that I recently got into is the tv programme Reba.

Reba is about a single mom raising 3 kids, her ex husband married his dental hygienist and this is where the pairing comes from Barbra Jean (the new wife) and Reba have an interesting chemistry especially as the show goes on. There's a subtext that runs through the show.

I found episodes on youtube and I believe it's still shown on tv in America. I'm from Scotland so I had to watch online. DVDs are available.

Reba is the best show ever. Barbra Jean and Reba were one of the first ships I wrote fic for years ago. :P

I can't believe that there is so little fic out there on this pairing. Just a couple on fanfic.net, the same ones are on AO3 and that's about it.

Samurai Flamenco-
The story of a male model who loves super heros so much, he decides to become one. It's mostly a send-up of sentai and tokusatsu (though it keeps a good balance between the comedy, action, and heart-felt moments), though I can say as a person who's never seen one of those in their entire life, it's extremely enjoyable without any knowledge of the genre.
Why is it relevant to this exchange? Because of these two
Mari Maya is an idol who decides that she wants to become a magical girl, so she drags her co-idols into it as well. One of them, Moe, is canonically in love with her, and the two kiss often! I absolutely adore their relationship! There is also a canon male/male pair by the end, if that interests anyone.
It's a really fun show, and I hope you'll enjoy it too!

Tokyo Mew Mew-
I know that magical girls shows are basically go-to for yuri undertones, but this one is a little older now, and I don't see it mentioned as much.
Zakuro/Mint is one of my all-time favorite girl/girl ships! Mint hero worships Zakuro to the point where it can easily be read as a crush. They're really adorable together.

Yuri Kuma Arashi-
The latest series by the creator of Utena! If you enjoyed Utena, I highly, highly recommend this one as well! The girl/girl elements are first and forefront, rather than just subtext!
It's about 'bears' who can transform into human girls, crossing the wall between the human and bear worlds, in order to find one of the bear's true love. Because this is an Ikuhara show, of course everything is loaded with symbolism.
The canon ship is the 'bear', Ginko, and the human protag, Kureha, but I really enjoyed the unrequited love Ginko's friend Lulu has for her. She's very loyal and selfless toward Ginko, which I really love in a ship!

I am horrible at giving summaries, but I hope that I made these sound half-way appealing!

Life is strange - An awesome game with a female protagonist and queer leads (The leads haven’t been confirmed to be queer or straight, but the subtext is so strong you really can’t say it’s anything but that). It deals with an eighteen year old girl name Max who discovers she has the power to rewind time

With her best friend, Chloe at her side she tries to solve the disappearance of Rachel Amber as well discover why she has this power in the first place. All four episodes of this game are for sale on Xbox 360, Xbox One, PS4, PS3, and PC. If you can’t afford or just don't want to buy the episodes, you can simply go here and here to watch some playthroughs. The first link contains the first three episodes and the last the fourth.

The March Family Letters - This is a modern adaptation of Little Women that features not only an ace Beth but a queer Meg who gets into a relationship with Joan. The progression of Meg and Joan’s relationship is one of the best things about this show.

You can watch the entire webseries on youtube.

Mad Max - An amazing action movie featuring females leads that don’t fall into stereotypes. One character in particular, Furiosa, was especially amazing and shared only a platonic friendship with the male lead. This is something you don’t often see.

I sadly don’t know where one would be able to find this movie legally as of yet since the DVD isn’t set to come out for another few months. However, I do hope you get a chance to see it.

Best Song Ever - Gabrielle Aplin (Song): I love this cover version. One of my favorite things is that the cover singer didn’t change the pronouns or names to make it less queer. It gets automatic points for that because I am just over cover versions of songs that change the pronouns to basically “no homo” the originals. This song is also just sweet yet nostalgic and wistful, and I can’t help hoping that the couple referred to can have a happy ending somehow. :)

I’m Not Gonna Teach Your Boyfriend How to Dance with You - Kate Nash (Song): Here’s another neat queer cover of a song. Again, I like that the singer didn’t change the words around to make it straight. That’s kind of a pet peeve, lol. It’s a fun song with frustration and angst, where I hope the girl in question does get rid of the boyfriend who can’t even dance. ;)

Starships - Lindsey Stirling and Megan Nicole (Music Video): Yep, it’s another cover that I like way better than the original, though this time it’s the video that has the story potential. (I prefer the song to the original too, though.) I couldn’t resist the idea of a pair of adorable and clueless alien ladies lost on Earth. Also, I must admit I would borrow their outfits and not for Halloween. I have no excuse for that because I’m from Earth, but I would. ^_^

the covers for the four Craft Sequence novels

Do you like fantasy novels with an intriguingly fresh take on magical systems, POC protagonists (most of whom are women), queer and trans characters, and tons of potential for femslash?

You should definitely check out (and offer/request) Max Gladstone's Craft Sequence. Here's a recommendation post on tumblr with more info!

Dallas (2012)

Three-season revival of the iconic 70s-80s-90s primetime soap opera, which centers on the Ewing family, who have made their fame and fortune in the Texas oil and cattle industries.

Ann Ewing/Sue Ellen Ewing BFFs who protect each other from their ex-husbands! Co-matriarchs who gaze meaningfully at each other! Seriously, if you like older female characters who clearly love each other, and whose love drives major parts of the plot, these two will be right up your alley. And what could be a better ship for a soap opera than one that involves realizing later in life that, huh, not only are you not straight, but you're in love with your sister-in-law?

Emma Brown Ryland/Pamela Rebecca Barnes Ewing You know how fandom is always saying the love triangle needs to end in a threesome? Well, the one Emma and Pamela were involved in did. Alas, this wasn't the start of a happily-ever-after, but rather part of a revenge plot, but that just means Emma and Pamela are perfect if you love a good antagonistic ship with two bad girls who just want to be loved.

The Closer

A seven-season police procedural centered around the LAPD's Priority Homicide (later Major Crimes) Division, which is led by Brenda Leigh Johnson, a CIA-trained interrogator known for closing cases.

Brenda Leigh Johnson/Sharon Raydor It's Sharon's job to make sure other cops play by the rules, and Brenda isn't necessarily the best at that, so these two just don't like each other... until they do -- which means they're great whether you prefer to ship friends or adversaries. Really, though, I can't say anything about them that would be a better way to promote this ship than just linking to gifs of Brenda introducing Sharon to her parents and Sharon seeing Brenda dressed to impress.

Because I don't think I could say it better than I already did, here is a link to the post I made two years ago to pimp my favorite obscure gone-too-soon ladycentric fantasy show, Eastwick.

Seriously, you don't GET much better femslash fodder than this show.

(Sadly, I don't know where to tell people to look for it, but if you know any Paul Gross fans? You can probably find someone to hook you up.)

I'm squeezing this in too late for anyone to change their signup, but if anyone is looking for old-fashioned recs that are available for free online, I have two 19th-century novels and some weird 18th-century Orpheus fanfic. :D

Our Mutual Friend - Charles Dickens. Pretty much everyone in the book (including several ladies) is IRRESISTIBLY DRAWN to Lizzie Hexam, the poor boat-man's daughter who used to fish corpses out of the river for her father's shady business, but now yearns for a better life. But my real favorite character is the penniless social climber Sophronia Lammle, who tricks herself into a terrible marriage and spends half the book as a villain--until she is redeemed by her love for her friend, Georgiana Podsnap. THEY ARE SO IN LOVE.

Pierre - Herman Melville. For the first half of this book the only important male character is Pierre, whose life revolves around his relationships with women: his mother, his girlfriend Lucy, and Isabel, his long lost sister-bride (YEP). In a book with canonical incest, multiple love quadrangles, and some REALLY gay subtext, Isabel/Lucy is just the next logical step...

Eurydice, or, The Devil Henpecked - Henry Fielding. Eurydice arrives in Hell, but she and Proserpine get along so well that when her husband arrives unexpectedly to drag her home, she and Proserpine conspire to trick him into leaving her behind! The moral: women love each other more than their dumb husbands. :P
