Nominations are open!
If you haven't already please read the rules before you start nominating. The nomination guidelines are the same as last year, with the exception that we have increased the number of nominations allowed.

In short:
  • You may nominate up to ten fandoms with up to ten relationships in each.

  • All nominated characters must be women or gender questioning/queer people you'd be comfortable writing about in a femslash challenge
  • Please nominate crossovers as under the fandom: Crossovers - Fandom, and list the characters with their fandom after the character name (Example: Pepper Potts (MCU)/Seven of Nine (Star Trek: Voyager)

  • [Canonical Character]/Original Female Character is allowed. [Canonical Character]/Any is not allowed

  • [Canonical Character]/[Unnamed Character] is allowed in cases where there most likely was a woman, but we don't know exactly who she was, for example: Galadriel/Legolas' Mother in The Hobbit fandom.

  • There will be one category for Original Work, in which you may nominate things such as Princess/Handmaiden, Mermaid/Ship Captain, or Starship Captain/Chief Engineer.

  • You may wish to drop down into the comments below to see what fandoms and pairings others are nominating, and how to nominate large/complicated fandoms. We will be continuing to wrangle most large fandoms in the same manner as previous years, including:

Okay, ready to go? More than ready to go?

Click here to nominate some femslash.

Nominations will remain open until 6pm EDT, 8 August 2018.

Edit: Please make sure to review the list above! Can the person(s) nominating Mass Effect Trilogy, Mass Effect: Andromeda, Star Wars: The Clone Wars, and Star Wars Legends please update their nominations to utilise the appropriate combined fandom tags - or drop us a comment if there's been a change in your canon in the last year that might disqualify your fandoms from being combined.

Wandering Tags
Persona 4
Aigis/Arisato Minako
Arisato Minako/Yamagishi Fuuka
Takeba Yukari/Yamagishi Fuuka

Those are all Persona 3 ships that have wandered into Persona 4. Also, "Arisato Minako" is a fan nickname for the female protagonist of Persona 3, it isn't canon.

http://megamitensei.wikia.com/wiki/Female_Protagonist_(Persona_3_Portable)

Is it possible to get Bishoujo Senshi Sailor Moon | Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon (Anime & Manga) renamed to Bishoujo Senshi Sailor Moon | Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon (Crystal & Manga)? The Anime & Manga version is for 90s anime, Crystal, and the manga, but you have the 90s version separated out.

Re: Wandering Tags
I've reassociated those ships with Persona 3, thanks! I'll bring up renaming the Persona 3 protagonist with my comod.

Would it be better to combine the anime under the Bishoujo Senshi Sailor Moon | Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon (Anime & Manga) tag? Or is renaming our current tag to Crystal & Manga better? I'm not familiar with the fandom, so I'm open to input.

Re: Wandering Tags
The wandering Persona 3 tags are still showing up under Persona 4.

So, the original Sailor Moon manga and the 90s anime were coming out at the same time. The anime was at the rate of an episode a week while the manga was roughly one issue a month. Because of this, they differ very greatly in some areas. Rei (Sailor Mars) has a completely different personality and dynamic with Usagi between the two. Characters will exist in one version but not the other. Storylines and plot points will be resolved differently. In some cases sexualities aren't the same. In the case of the Sailor Starlights, their sex is different. In the manga they are female characters that crossdressed as males to pose as a boy band. The 90s anime version had them physically take male forms (it is implied their female forms are their true ones).

Sailor Moon Crystal is a closer adaptation of the manga. It isn't a 1:1 adaptation, but it is far closer with similar character dynamics and with only a small exceptions, the plot and storylines are the same. The biggest difference is that Crystal has covered the first three arcs, but there are still two more left, but by and large you could write fic that could be for either.

The Sailor Moon fandom is a bit tricky. It isn't uncommon for writers to pick and chose what they want from each version: manga/Crystal, 90s anime, live action show, musicals, sometimes even the original English dub. For example, it's common to use Rei's personality from the 90s anime but also that each Sailor Senshi was a princess of her own planet, which is a manga/first English dub point, not an original anime plot point.

But, when someone cares enough to specify a particular version, then they usually feel very strongly about only getting that version.

Re: Wandering Tags
This is very helpful, thank you! After having a look at the past tagsets am I right that we should be working with:
Bishoujo Senshi Sailor Moon | Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon (Manga/Crystal)
Sailor Moon (1992 Anime)
Bishoujo Senshi Sailor Moon | Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon (Live Action TV)
Sailor Moon (Musicals) <- is there a better canon fandom tag for these?

Technically, the historical rule says Manga and Crystal can be split. But it sounds like they have enough commonalities that they should be combined to be consistent with other fandoms we combine. Should we update the rule to say Manga/Crystal is combined and all other versions are separated? If we separate them, is there a preferred canonical fandom tag for Crystal?

I will remove the Anime & Manga tag currently in the tagset, which (or both) should these associated pairings go?
Aino Minako/Hino Rei (Guardian)
Aino Minako/Kino Makoto (Guardian)
Chibiusa/Tomoe Hotaru (Guardian)
Hino Rei/Mizuno Ami (Guardian)
Hino Rei/Tsukino Usagi (Guardian)
Kaiou Michiru/Meiou Setsuna/Tenoh Haruka (Guardian)
Kaiou Michiru/Tenoh Haruka (Guardian)
Kino Makoto/Mizuno Ami (Guardian)
Kino Makoto/Tenoh Haruka (Guardian)
Mizuno Ami/Tsukino Usagi (Guardian)

Re: Wandering Tags
I don't have strong feelings on whether the manga and Crystal should be merged or split. But between the two choices I think merging manga and Crystal makes the most sense.

These all look good.

Bishoujo Senshi Sailor Moon | Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon (Manga/Crystal)
Sailor Moon (1992 Anime)
Bishoujo Senshi Sailor Moon | Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon (Live Action TV)

I tried writing a thing about the musicals, but you know I'm just going to say not to worry about them. There are three different continuities in them but I've never seen anyone nominate the musicals except for myself. If someone nominates them I will be happy to write a huge explanation about all three but it is really unlikely to come up.

All of the pairings listed can go into either the 90s anime or Manga/Crystal.

Re: Wandering Tags
Sounds great, thank you! I'll make a note on the next post that we're using those three fandom tags, and if anyone wants other forms of Sailor Moon they should drop a comment so we can check splits/combos or names make sense before approving them.

I'm also looking at Persona now. Takeba Yukari/Yamagishi Fuuka should be correctly associated and no longer in Persona 4. I'll fix the other two once I know what the name should be edited to (if anything.)

What would be the best way to refer to Arisato? It looks like the canonical is 'Female Persona 3 Protagonist' - is the fan nickname widely used enough that it might be confusing to just swap the canon name in for the nickname? Or I see the canonical has two subtags, Arisato Minako and Shiomi Kotone. Would either canonical | Arisato Minako, or canonical | Arisato Minako | Shiomi Kotone, or canonical | Shiomi Kotone be better? I don't want to complicate the name unnecessarily and make the tag harder to read, but I also don't want people to think their nom is missing or end up continually declining duplicates because there's confusion.

Re: Wandering Tags
My opinion is "Female Persona 3 Protagonist".

The male Persona 3 protagonist is the original version. The manga gave him the name Arisato Minato. When Persona 3 Portable was brought out people dubbed her Arisato Minako because there was nothing else to call her. But since then the play came out and gave the male protagonist the name Sakuya Shiomi and her the name Kotone Shiomi, which is the only canonical name she's ever been given but I don't know how popular it is. Now, the anime and a new video game has given the male protagonist the name Makoto Yuki. Usually whatever name the anime uses is the one that sticks and becomes the permanent, official name.

I like Persona 3 Female Protagonist or canonical | other names because it let's people pick which one they want in their details.

Re: Wandering Tags
Okay, great, thank you so much for all your help as always! That all makes sense so I'll leave them wandering for the moment in case other people want to weigh in with their preferred options, and then I'll swap it for Female Protag or Female Protag | other name(s) when I move/edit it.

Re: Wandering Tags
I commented below but I just saw this - please leave Crystal/manga separate from the 90s anime. (Although the two 90s nominations can be combined.)
