Nominations are open!
If you haven't already please read the rules before you start nominating. The nomination guidelines are the same as last year, with the exception that we have increased the number of nominations allowed.

In short:
  • You may nominate up to ten fandoms with up to ten relationships in each.

  • All nominated characters must be women or gender questioning/queer people you'd be comfortable writing about in a femslash challenge
  • Please nominate crossovers as under the fandom: Crossovers - Fandom, and list the characters with their fandom after the character name (Example: Pepper Potts (MCU)/Seven of Nine (Star Trek: Voyager)

  • [Canonical Character]/Original Female Character is allowed. [Canonical Character]/Any is not allowed

  • [Canonical Character]/[Unnamed Character] is allowed in cases where there most likely was a woman, but we don't know exactly who she was, for example: Galadriel/Legolas' Mother in The Hobbit fandom.

  • There will be one category for Original Work, in which you may nominate things such as Princess/Handmaiden, Mermaid/Ship Captain, or Starship Captain/Chief Engineer.

  • You may wish to drop down into the comments below to see what fandoms and pairings others are nominating, and how to nominate large/complicated fandoms. We will be continuing to wrangle most large fandoms in the same manner as previous years, including:
    • Songs with female singers and female or ambiguous pronouns are eligible
    • All of the MCU movies, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., and Agent Carter will be listed under Marvel Cinematic Universe
    • Jessica Jones, Daredevil, Luke Cage and Iron Fist will be listed together under Marvel Netflix
    • X-Men (Movies) will now be divided into X-Men (Alternate Timeline Movies), X-Men (Original Timeline Movies) and Deadpool (2016). Wolverine movies go in Original Timeline
    • Marvel Comics will be nominated by universe, for example: Marvel 616, Marvel Adventures, etc.
    • Main-continuity DC comics, including pre-Flashpoint and New 52, will be under DCU (Comics). Other DC universes such as Bombshells will be separate by universe
    • Everything set in the Doctor Who universe can be nominated under Doctor Who (including Sarah Jane Adventures and Torchwood)
    • Tolkien fandoms will be split into The Silmarillion – J.R.R. Tolkein; The Hobbit (All Media Types), and The Lord of the Rings (All Media Types)

    • Stargate will be grouped together under "Stargate - All Series"
    • Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Angel: The Series and assorted spinoffs will go together under "Buffy the Vampire Slayer & Related Fandoms"
    • All variations of Sailor Moon will be nominated separately
    • All Pretty Cure series will be nominated together

    • Game of Thrones (TV) and A Song of Ice and Fire should be treated as separate fandoms
    • Once Upon a Time in Wonderland will be included with Once Upon A Time (TV)
    • "Disney - All Media Types" is to be used for all Disney pairings, including Disney Princesses
    • Ashes to Ashes and Life on Mars go together under "Life on Mars & Related Fandoms"
    • The Vampire Diaries (TV) and The Originals go together as The "Vampire Diaries & Related Fandoms"
    • "DC Cinematic Universe" includes Man of Steel, Batman vs Superman, Wonder Woman, Justice League, Aquaman, and Suicide Squad

If you spot any doubles, misfiled fandoms, random pairing popping up under other fandoms or pairings that don't qualify, comment here. We're going to do our best to wrangle as we go.

Don't waste a nomination! Before you nominate anything, check the tag set to see if your pairings and fandoms are already there.

Okay, ready to go? More than ready to go?

Click here to nominate some femslash.

Nominations will remain open until 6pm EDT, 8 August 2018.

Edit: Please make sure to review the list above! Can the person(s) nominating Mass Effect Trilogy, Mass Effect: Andromeda, Star Wars: The Clone Wars, and Star Wars Legends please update their nominations to utilise the appropriate combined fandom tags - or drop us a comment if there's been a change in your canon in the last year that might disqualify your fandoms from being combined.

Good question! Yes, we will be going by the word of god confirmation that Discovery is set in the Prime universe, so they will be folded under Classic.

So yes, Jaylah/Tilly or similar pairings become crossovers. Having said that, yes I think you can definitely make a case for nominating their alternates if you're either specifically interested in or just open to speculative characterisation/backstory changes. Use tags like AOS Philippa, or Prime Jaylah. That falls comfortably under the unnamed but inferrable character rule in my opinion. It is also in line with the way we use Mirror [Character] tags for mirror versions where they don't have a specific title like Emperor to distinguish them from their Prime version, or if they're unnamed but inferred.

So yes, I realise you've already answered yourself but in case anyone passing by was confused, Mirror goes under Classic as Prime/Mirror characters canonically meet. At this stage, I would say that Mirror characters should probably only go under Classic (eg. Mirror Jaylah would also be Classic, if someone wants to take the logical leap further that if Jaylah is in Prime/Classic then she's probably also in Mirror.) I'm not aware of any tie-in or word of god confirmations saying AOS has its own version of the mirror verse - though there could well be something I've not seen. Or maybe Prime characters are the only ones who tend to blunder around across realities opening up cracks, heh. If there is reason to believe there is an AOS version of Mirror, we may need to think about how to preface any nominations for AOS and Mirror characters to indicate which version of Mirror is meant, if they come up at all.

Edit: oh, and it's up to you and we may or may not tweak them as we approve them, but if you want to save yourself some typing and keep your Star Trek crossover tags more readable feel free to use shorthand like Star Trek AOS or Star Trek Classic or Star Trek DISCO etc if you prefer. Our fandom tags are longer, but crossovers don't need a group fandom indication just for the sake of it unless using an umbrella name like Classic for any Mirror characters simplifies things too.

Thank you! This all seems very reasonable.

Use tags like AOS Philippa, or Prime Jaylah. That falls comfortably under the unnamed but inferrable character rule in my opinion.

Ooh yeah, the inferrable character--that's exactly what I meant, just hadn't put two and two together to realize there was a rule for it already!

Okay so, I could nominate any of:

Crossovers --> Jaylah (ST AOS)/Philippa Georgiou (ST Classic)

Star Trek Classic --> Jaylah (Prime)/Philippa Georgiou

Star Trek AOS --> Jaylah/Philippa Georgiou (AOS)

depending on whether I meant to nominate a) the specific versions of them that we see in onscreen canon (or: if I don't care which version?), b) both characters in the Discovery setting (Jaylah with an inferred Disco background), or c) both characters in the AOS setting (inferred AOS Philippa Georgiou).

I think? :D

Also yes that makes sense for Mirror characters. Right now I have no ships for Mirror AOS characters, but I know fic has been written in other situations about inferrable Mirror counterparts for the AOS folks. It's beyond the scope of this comment to argue whether or not they'd resemble their TOS Mirror selves or not, but thank you for clarifying in case anyone does want to nominate, like, Mirror Commodore Paris/Mirror Gaila.

(...now I ship it. And will be cackling over the phrase "inferrable Philippa Georgiou" all day! 😍)

You've got it! The only thing is I'd say use Prime Jaylah over Jaylah (Prime). It'll hopefully be more self-explanatory in the tagset for other people what the addition means if say AOS Philippa Georgiou/Jaylah sits alongside Mirror Philippa Georgiou/Michael Burnham for example. It would also be very easy to mix up bracketed inferred alternates with bracketed fandoms that are meant to be crossovers, and while what fandom it's coming in on the queue will make it initially obvious which is which to the mods if something wanders or people are helping us spot errors it might look like it's in the wrong spot.

So:
Crossovers --> Jaylah (ST AOS)/Philippa Georgiou (ST Classic)

Star Trek Classic --> Prime Jaylah/Philippa Georgiou

Star Trek AOS --> Jaylah/AOS Philippa Georgiou

And heh, I know what you mean! I jumped straight to Mirror Paris/Emperor Georgiou, myself.

Hah, it turns out I've nominated Mirror Paris/Mirror Georgiou after all. :D It's nice having ten whole slots!!

None of my Star Trek ships have shown up in the tagset yet (though my other nominations have). Is this because they're under review/being wrangled by the mods?

*refreshes page again* :D

P.S. If you are a Disco person, [community profile] spacefungusparty has great discussions when the show is actually airing (pretty quiet otherwise).

They might have shown up by now, but yeah, there are a lot of noms to go through and AO3 only shows us a few at once, so there may be a delay from when you nom to when they appear!

And on top of only showing a few, the queue randomises what it shows each time you refresh and AO3 is enjoying timing up when I approve more than one or two fandoms at once. So it's definitely not unusual for only some to get approved and others to wait, even though it can look odd on your end. What we see and in what order can be unpredictable.

Once we say we've beaten the queue back down, if you're still not seeing everything in the tagset definitely let us know though!

Hee, yes, it's a great comm! I didn't find as much time to keep up with it during the first season as I'd have liked but I definitely need to pop in more once season two starts.

Currently, all my noms are showing up, but all the Trek ones are in Unassociated Characters & Relationships. I'm just going to assume that the process is ticking along as expected and this is just the pupal stage. :D

(Thank you for all the work you guys put in! I know it's a bit crazymaking at this stage. <3)

You'd be welcome! A lot of the same folks are on Tumblr too, but I really loved having a place for a bunch of people to shout about new episodes together. :D And post fic or whatever too.

Yup, that's normal and I'll do a sweep through the current unassociated tags shortly.
