If you haven't already please read the rules before you start nominating. The nomination guidelines are the same as last year, with the exception that we have increased the number of nominations allowed.

In short:

• You may nominate up to ten fandoms with up to ten relationships in each.


• All nominated characters must be women or gender questioning/queer people you'd be comfortable writing about in a femslash challenge

• Please nominate crossovers as under the fandom: Crossovers - Fandom, and list the characters with their fandom after the character name (Example: Pepper Potts (MCU)/Seven of Nine (Star Trek: Voyager)


• [Canonical Character]/Original Female Character is allowed. [Canonical Character]/Any is not allowed


• [Canonical Character]/[Unnamed Character] is allowed in cases where there most likely was a woman, but we don't know exactly who she was, for example: Galadriel/Legolas' Mother in The Hobbit fandom.


• There will be one category for Original Work, in which you may nominate things such as Princess/Handmaiden, Mermaid/Ship Captain, or Starship Captain/Chief Engineer.


• You may wish to drop down into the comments below to see what fandoms and pairings others are nominating, and how to nominate large/complicated fandoms. We will be continuing to wrangle most large fandoms in the same manner as previous years, including:
• Songs with female singers and female or ambiguous pronouns are eligible
• All of the MCU movies, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., and Agent Carter will be listed under Marvel Cinematic Universe
• Jessica Jones, Daredevil, Luke Cage and Iron Fist will be listed together under Marvel Netflix
• X-Men (Movies) will now be divided into X-Men (Alternate Timeline Movies), X-Men (Original Timeline Movies) and Deadpool (2016). Wolverine movies go in Original Timeline
• Marvel Comics will be nominated by universe, for example: Marvel 616, Marvel Adventures, etc.
• Main-continuity DC comics, including pre-Flashpoint and New 52, will be under DCU (Comics). Other DC universes such as Bombshells will be separate by universe
• Everything set in the Doctor Who universe can be nominated under Doctor Who (including Sarah Jane Adventures and Torchwood)
• Tolkien fandoms will be split into The Silmarillion – J.R.R. Tolkein; The Hobbit (All Media Types), and The Lord of the Rings (All Media Types)
• All of the old-continuity Star Treks together under "Star Trek: Classic Timeline (All Series)," AOS under "Star Trek: Alternate Original Series (Movies)‎"
• Stargate will be grouped together under "Stargate - All Series"
• Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Angel: The Series and assorted spinoffs will go together under "Buffy the Vampire Slayer & Related Fandoms"
• All variations of Sailor Moon will be nominated separately
• All Pretty Cure series will be nominated together
• All Rune Factory series will be nominated together
• FF X and FF X-2 will be nominated as "Final Fantasy X & Final Fantasy X-2"
• All of Dragon Age goes together under "Dragon Age - All Media Types"
• Kamen Rider variations go together under "Kamen Rider - All Media Types"
• Various Sentai properties go together under "Super Sentai Series"
• The Les Mis tag will be "Les Miserables (All Media Types)"
• Law and Order series will be nominated separately by series name.
• Arrow, The Flash, Supergirl, Constantine, and Legends of Tomorrow tv shows will be nominated together as "Arrowverse (CW TV)"
• Mass Effect will be "Mass Affect - All Media Types" and will include Mass Effect Andromeda
• Star Wars will go under "Star Wars - All Media Types"
• Power Rangers will be split into the movie tag "Power Rangers (2017)", and all shows will be combined under "Power Rangers (TV)"
• Game of Thrones (TV) and A Song of Ice and Fire should be treated as separate fandoms
• Once Upon a Time in Wonderland will be included with Once Upon A Time (TV)
• "Disney - All Media Types" is to be used for all Disney pairings, including Disney Princesses
• Ashes to Ashes and Life on Mars go together under "Life on Mars & Related Fandoms"
• The Vampire Diaries (TV) and The Originals go together as The "Vampire Diaries & Related Fandoms"
• "DC Cinematic Universe" includes Man of Steel, Batman vs Superman, Wonder Woman, Justice League, Aquaman, and Suicide Squad

Those tags without her last name are incorrect for the show continuity.

The reboot movie doesn't say Trini's last name, so the AO3 mods stripped Kwan from all the TV show tags despite that being her canonical last name for 25 years and the two versions of the character having almost nothing in common.

Hey mod, would you be at all willing to consider dividing The Lord of the Rings into books and movies, rather than All Media Types? There are some Tolkien fans (including me) who have strong preferences for one vs. the other.

Hi, we can definitely discuss it! Can you lay out the canon differences and divergences that might justify the split, my memory of the movie promo at the time is that the movies were intended to reasonably faithfully follow the books but I've never been a close reader of the books so there might be more differences than I'm aware of. It would be particularly helpful to know if it's comparable to something like Game of Thrones or another franchise that we already split (or don't split).

If other Tolkien nominators passing by wish to chime in, please feel free. It's handled a bit differently to the other large fandoms, but those discussions largely pre-date the current mods so it would probably be best to review the whole fandom instead of just Lord of the Rings (if we were to make any changes) to make sure we're across all the relevant info.

So I've been trying to edit my noms as described in the rules.

I tried to nominate Sailor Moon Crystal instead the tag I'm currently using for my Sailor Moon ships, but the form page said that Sailor Moon Crystal is a freeform tag and couldn't be used that way.

I also tried to tag my ships for Star Wars Legends: Knights of the Old Republic under the Star Wars - All Media Types and the form page said nope that to as well.

I have also edited my mass effect noms accordingly as well to the best of my ability.

Also, Aigis/Arisato Minako, Arisato Minako/Yamagishi Fuuka, and Takeba Yukari/Yamagishi Fuuka have wandered over to Persona 4 from Persona 3.

Quick update on Persona: Takeba Yukari/Yamagishi Fuuka should be correctly associated and no longer in Persona 4. It's been flagged that we should consider using Female Persona 3 Protagonist instead of Arisato Minako.

Is it possible to get Bishoujo Senshi Sailor Moon | Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon (Anime & Manga) renamed to Bishoujo Senshi Sailor Moon | Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon (Crystal & Manga)? The Anime & Manga version is for 90s anime, Crystal, and the manga, but you have the 90s version separated out.

These fandoms can be merged since they're the same thing; AO3 just doesn't have a canonical fandom tag for it. Just to check: This does include Star Trek: Discovery under "Star Trek: Classic Timeline (All Series)", right? Since that show takes place between Enterprise and the original series (TOS) and isn't in a different timeline.

Would this also mean that a ship between a woman who only appears in the AOS movies (e.g. Jaylah or Commodore Paris) and one who only appears in the classic timeline (e.g. T'Pol or Philippa Georgiou or Emony Dax) would count as a crossover ship? Or, since it's possible to theorize that those characters exist in both versions of the Star Trek universe, would we nominate them as if they existed in the timeline we want?

In other words, if I want to nominate Jaylah (who only appears in the AOS movie Star Trek Beyond) with Sylvia Tilly (who only appears in the prime-timeline series Star Trek Discovery), and I wanted it set in the Discovery/prime timeline setting, would I submit it as:

Crossovers --> Jaylah (Star Trek: Alternate Original Series (Movies))/Sylvia Tilly (Star Trek: Classic Timeline (All Series))

or

Star Trek: Classic Timeline (All Series) --> Jaylah/Sylvia Tilly

(I mention this because a lot of people ship Commodore Paris (Shohreh Aghdashloo) from Beyond with Philippa Georgiou from Discovery. Almost always set in the Discovery universe, though you *could* write Georgiou in the AOS setting, I suppose.)

Third question: With Star Trek, do Mirror Universe characters just get nominated under their relevant usual canon? (Intendent Kira or Emperor Georgiou as characters under ST: Classic Timeline?) This seems to be the case! Solved :-)

Good question! Yes, we will be going by the word of god confirmation that Discovery is set in the Prime universe, so they will be folded under Classic.

So yes, Jaylah/Tilly or similar pairings become crossovers. Having said that, yes I think you can definitely make a case for nominating their alternates if you're either specifically interested in or just open to speculative characterisation/backstory changes. Use tags like AOS Philippa, or Prime Jaylah. That falls comfortably under the unnamed but inferrable character rule in my opinion. It is also in line with the way we use Mirror [Character] tags for mirror versions where they don't have a specific title like Emperor to distinguish them from their Prime version, or if they're unnamed but inferred.

So yes, I realise you've already answered yourself but in case anyone passing by was confused, Mirror goes under Classic as Prime/Mirror characters canonically meet. At this stage, I would say that Mirror characters should probably only go under Classic (eg. Mirror Jaylah would also be Classic, if someone wants to take the logical leap further that if Jaylah is in Prime/Classic then she's probably also in Mirror.) I'm not aware of any tie-in or word of god confirmations saying AOS has its own version of the mirror verse - though there could well be something I've not seen. Or maybe Prime characters are the only ones who tend to blunder around across realities opening up cracks, heh. If there is reason to believe there is an AOS version of Mirror, we may need to think about how to preface any nominations for AOS and Mirror characters to indicate which version of Mirror is meant, if they come up at all.

Edit: oh, and it's up to you and we may or may not tweak them as we approve them, but if you want to save yourself some typing and keep your Star Trek crossover tags more readable feel free to use shorthand like Star Trek AOS or Star Trek Classic or Star Trek DISCO etc if you prefer. Our fandom tags are longer, but crossovers don't need a group fandom indication just for the sake of it unless using an umbrella name like Classic for any Mirror characters simplifies things too.

the sleepless domain nominations "Kokoro/Undine Wells/Tessa Quinn" and "Kokoro/Undine Wells" should probably be updated since kokoro's last name (aichi) just got revealed in a recent page; the ao3 tags were probably "canonized" by wranglers way before this update.

Thanks for the heads up! Is Kokoro likely to be confused with another character without the last name included? We will probably stick with the canonical if there's no issues likely to arise from leaving the last name off, as it's more work to tweak existing tags than to edit them before they're approved. But definitely let us know if it causes issues beyond being technically incomplete, and we can update.
