Nominations Clarifications, take two

We have gotten the queue under control! There are a small handful (approximately five) fandoms stuck behind outstanding issues, but most of the straggling combined fandoms that were nominated incorrectly (eg. Thor instead of MCU, Supergirl instead of Arrowverse) have been corrected. If you were still wanting to check the tagset before entering your nominations, now is a good time to do so.

If anyone isn't the nominator but wants to weigh in on the below, please feel free! For issues that were also listed on the previous post, we will begin making best guesses in 24 hours to clear space in the queue.

Fandoms that may (still) require clarification or combination:
  • Hannibal. We've had a nomination for All Media Types. Are we correct in our assumption that Hannibal (TV) is separate and different from the other Hannibal universe(s), or should we combine under AMT? If we separate, what fandom tag should be used for Bedelia Du Maurier/Clarice Starling (or would it be a crossover between different versions of Hannibal?)

  • Fate/zero. Is this a shared universe prequel to Fate/stay night that should be combined under All Media Types? There is ongoing discussion here that you can join.

  • The Worst Witch. We have changed the fandom from All Media Types to Worst Witch (1998 TV), and moved the pairings already approved accordingly, based on feedback that the characters and backstory are different. If you're the nominator and disagree or want them under a different Worst Witch please let us know! If anyone wants to nominate other forms of Worst Witch, please drop us a comment explaining whether it's a shared universe or a separate version so we know which fandom tag best applies.

  • Tolkien. The current likely new split will be: The Silmarillion and other histories of Middle-Earth - J. R. R. Tolkien, The Lord of the Rings & The Hobbit - J. R. R. Tolkien, and Middle Earth - Peter Jackson Movies. This will be the last call for input if anyone else wishes to jump into the discussion, otherwise we will begin approving under the above fandom tags in 24 hours.

  • Neon Genesis Evangelion . Makinami Mari Illustrious/Shikinami Asuka Langley has been moved to Rebuild for the moment. It has been suggested that we combine all Neon Genesis, however. Please pop into the comments below to discuss!

Pairings that may (still) require clarification:
  • Fallout, Desdemona/Glory. Most Fallout nominations are coming under individual titles. Can nominator(s) for the fandom weigh in on whether it's a shared universe, or do we need to assign this pairing (currently under all games) to a specific title? If the latter, which title does it belong to?

  • Fire Emblem, Degel | Kjelle/Serena | Severa. Most Fire Emblem nominations are also under individual titles. Ditto the question, do we need to combine or do we just need to know where to assign this?

  • ASOIAF/Game of Thrones. If anyone is missing pairings under either, please check the list on the last post and let us know.

  • Crossover. Can the nominators for Lara Croft/Diana (Wonder Woman), Aya | Amunet (Assassin's Creed)/Cleopatra VII of Egypt, and Trixie Belden/Nancy Drew, please clarify which Diana or Cleopatra or Nancy you intended, otherwise you'll be chancing matching on any version of those characters.

  • MCU/Crossover. Brunnhilde | Valkyrie/Jessica Jones came in under MCU, so we are assuming Netflix Jessica was intended. That pairing already exists in the crossover tagset, so if you want a different Jessica or Valkyrie please either let us know or update your nomination with clearer fandom indicators. Otherwise we will decline as a duplicate.

  • Marvel (Comics). Can the nominator of Carol Danvers/Jessica Drew or Kate Bishop/America Chavez please update their fandom tag or comment to tell us which Marvel Comics title they want. (If the nominator doesn't show, possible title options that may be intended would be very welcome input from any comics fans!)

  • Sailor Moon: can the nominator of Chibiusa/Tomoe Hotaru please confirm which fandom tag they wanted it under (Anime or Crystal/Manga)?

Additions/Changes to fandom combination rules:
  • Disney. Nominations should be made under Descendents, DuckTales 2017, Maleficent (2014), or Disney - All Media Types. If non-2017 DuckTales fans wish to discuss splitting from All Media Types, please drop us a comment or head here

  • Fallen London | Echo Bazaar. Sunless Seas and Sunless Skies should be nominated as part of Fallen London.

  • Fantastic Beasts. We combined with the canonical umbrella tag Harry Potter - J. K. Rowling, drop us a comment if you wish to discuss it.

  • Castlevania. We have used the umbrella series tag for now, drop us a comment if you wish to discuss it or that's incorrect.

  • Dangan. Combine all nominations under Dangan Ronpa - All Media Types, including V3.

Not the nominator for either, but re: Fallout (Desdemona/Glory), the standard procedure in exchanges seems to be for the Fallout titles to be separated and I think that works well. This pairing belongs in Fallout 4. Neither character belongs in any other game.

Re: Makinami Mari Illustrious/Shikinami Asuka Langley, I'd agree that putting this pairing in Rebuild is a better idea if that has also been nominated, as Mari does not appear in the original anime series (which is what is meant by the vanilla Neon Genesis Evangelion fandom tag). However, because of the nature of the Evangelion universe (it's implied that Rebuild is a subsequent universe / timeline following NGE and End of Evangelion), grouping all Evangelion-related noms into one fandom tag could be workable if a nominator preferred that?

Sure thing; I should preface by saying I’m still unsure whether I will be signing up for this exchange or requesting Fallout games if I do, so my horse in this race is pretty small.

The games do all take place in a shared universe with some overlap of characters. That being said (and I can only speak for 3, 4, and New Vegas–haven’t played the first two), the games all take place in different places at different times, and whatever character overlap is there is quite minor and usually only at a cameo level. They are very much self-contained stories. The decision to group or split them usually has more to do with the mechanics of the exchange itself; i.e., Fallout 3 is still Yuletide eligible while 4 and NV are not, or I could see someone wanting them to be split in order to meet minimum fandoms requested/offered, etc.

It’s also worth noting that the games themselves are extremely long and involved RPG video games which require a lot of time and effort to canon review, and it’s very plausible someone could know, say, Fallout: New Vegas well enough to feel comfortable to offer it without ever having played Fallout 4, for example.

One reason to potentially group the noms under AMT is if people have nominated pairings of characters from different games without wanting them categorized as “Crossovers”, for whatever reason.

Not the nominator for it, but Degel | Kjelle/Serena | Severa would be Fire Emblem Awakening.

Nancy Drew (1959-1979), I guess? Not sure how to identify a specific era when all the books have the same 'author'.

On Neon Genesis Evangelion, I'd prefer it stay separate as some of the different versions of the same characters are quite different. E.g. Asuka Langley Soryu and Asuka Shikinami Langley would be considered the same character if grouped, but Rebuild (Shikinami) Asuka, among other things, becomes an adult in a child's body, which doesn't happen to Soryu Asuka.

Re: The Worst Witch, there are two versions (TV 1998 and TV 2017). I would recommend dividing the nominations this way, according to the separate fandoms:

The Worst Witch (TV 2017):
Ada Cackle/Hecate Hardbroom, Dimity Drill/Julie Hubble, Hecate Hardbroom/Julie Hubble, Hecate Hardbroom/Pippa Pentangle

The Worst Witch (TV 1998):
Imogen Drill/Constance Hardbroom

(None of the above nominations are internal crossovers.)

That's right; the above characters are unique to their versions, so unless someone nominates a 1998/2017 crossover pairing, which is unlikely, I think potential participants will know where to look for their ships.

I've never nominated a crossover before, so I'm pretty sure I'm doing it wrong, as my nomination is still pending (has been for a few days).

?! Hannibal Lecter Series - All Media Types
Relationships
?! Bedelia Du Maurier/Clarice Starling

I'm honestly not sure how to classify it. For clarification, Bedelia Du Maurier is from Hannibal (TV) and Clarice Starling could be from Hannibal Lecter Series - All Media Types AND/OR Hannibal Lecter Tetralogy - Thomas Harris.

The TV universe is seperate so I think for a tagset the best way to do Bedelia/Clarice is as a crossover of Hannibal (TV) & Hannibal Lecter Tetralogy - Thomas Harris.

Thank you! I honestly got tripped up on "Crossovers - Fandom" because AO3 didn't populate anything and I couldn't see other examples.

Hello! I have clarifications on three fandoms I’m about to nominate, just in case:

The Spy Who Dumped Me (2018)
Morgan Freeman is the canonical name of a female character played by Kate McKinnon, not Morgan Freeman the actor.

The Hot Daga (Buzzfeed Unsolved Network)
I wasn’t sure how to nominate this one. The canon is an animated saga (The Hot Daga) being told in the last few minutes of the weekly Q&A videos for Buzzfeed Unsolved, a YouTube series. One fic’s been written for the ship in question before, and was tagged with Buzzfeed Unsolved, if you’d rather put it in there.

The ship in question is Gebra/Maizey, and I went with the spellings of the characters’ names from the wiki, which is at http://hotdaga.wikia.com/wiki/Hot_Daga_Wiki

The Good Place (TV)
I’m nominating Eleanor Shellstrop/Eleanor Shellstrop, which is self-cest. I do not have a specific canonical version of Eleanor I want. Also, I do specifically intend to nominate Eleanor Shellstrop/Eleanor Shellstrop, not Eleanor Shellstrop/Real Eleanor Shellstrop | Vicky, which is a different ship and is already in the tagset.

Thank you! :D

Not the nominator, but the comic tag for Kate Bishop/America Chavez is 'Young Avengers (Comics).' For Carol Danvers/Jessica Drew I'd say they mean 'Marvel 616' (or if you need something more specific, maybe 'Captain Marvel (Marvel Comics)' or 'Spider-Woman (Comics)').

Nominator of “Brunnhilde | Valkyrie/Original Female Character(s) (MCU)” here. I’ve also noticed that “Brunnhilde | Valkyrie/Original Character” is in the tagset as well now (I did not nominate this tag). I formatted my tag off of the already existing “MCU Character/Original Female Character(s) (MCU)” tags in the tagset.

I have no preference over how my nomination is treated, by the way.

Under crossovers - Fandom, I spotted a ship that was accidentally nominated with an & rather than a /:

Sun Bak (Sense8 (TV)) & Clementine Pennyfeather (Westworld (TV))

DC Animated Universe

[personal profile] sirvalkyrie 2018-08-05 11:45 pm (UTC)(link)
Under DC Animated Universe you have "Courtney Whitmore (Bruce Timm Animated)/Kara Zor-El (Bruce Timm Animated)". There is a character who is called Supergirl in the DCAU, but she isn't Kara Zor-El. There is no character with that name in the DCAU. They probably meant Kara In-Ze, who isn't from Krypton and isn't related to Superman, but does have the title of Supergirl.

Hey, can I ask why my nomination for Tar-Míriel/Original Female Character in The Silmarillion and other histories of Middle-Earth - J. R. R. Tolkien was rejected?

If the Lord of the Rings/Silmarillion crossover pairings are being put in crossovers, then these two probably should be also for the sake of consistency (I don't mind them being where they are, but I'd hate for people to see those and assume they were the only Tolkien crossover pairings available):

The Silmarillion and other histories of Middle-Earth - J. R. R. Tolkien:
Rían of the House of Bëor/Goldberry (Silm)

The Lord of the Rings & The Hobbit - J. R. R. Tolkien:
Finduilas of Dol Amroth/Uinen (Books)

Goldberry is a Lord of the Rings book character and Uinen is a Silmarillion character. (Great pairing ideas, and I'm glad someone nominated them.)

(Anonymous) 2018-08-06 10:08 pm (UTC)(link)
Éowyn/Original Female Character of Rohan (Books) has migrated into Middle Earth - Peter Jackson Movies.

(Anonymous) 2018-08-06 10:28 pm (UTC)(link)
Thank you for fixing the crossover and Eowyn issues!

The accepted tag says "Tar-Míriel/Any Female Character(s)", not "Tar-Míriel/Original Female Character(s)", and I don't see those as the same thing. I would assume from seeing it that "Any Female Character(s)" meant any canon character(s) and doesn't include original characters. I would prefer for my tag to be added back in the way I nominated it.

(Anonymous) 2018-08-06 10:41 pm (UTC)(link)
Thank you. :)

My nominated tag was Tar-Míriel/Original Female Character. I would prefer for my tag to be added back in the way I nominated it.
